Lyrics

(by AnnMarie Clayton)

The wild geese welcome Autumn,
and spread their wings to fly before its willful winds.

They open wide their wings,
and leap up joyfully into Autumn’s wild gales.

Before the giant Harvest moon,
we see them streaming by like clouds,

Flocks of smoky black shadows,
flowing, silhouetted, against the gilded moon.

They laugh at us.
They shake their feathers scornfully.

“Poor wingless things,
who’ll never know the boundless freedom of the sky.”

We hear the echo of their voices,
as one calls farewell to Autumn.

They dance above Earth’s boundaries,
And fly above the seasons in the wild Autumn wind.
